Health Workers in Wajir County Dying of Neglect

Few days after the death of Public Health Officer Mr Abdi Yussuf from a suspected Covid19 infection, the Wajir County assembly speaker has ordered investigations into the shambles that led to his death and the care the deceased was allegedly denied.
In a letter seen by NFD Dispatch, Assembly speaker Ahmed Yakub, orders investigations into the death of the health official. ”Pursuant to Standing Order 201 (5)(a) of Wajir County Assembly which assigns the sectoral committee the duty to investigate, inquire into, and report on all matters relating to the mandate, management, activities, administration and operations of departments and concerned that there is an allegation the late Public Health Officer (Mr. Abdi Yusuf) for Tarbaj Sub-county passed on due to negligence and lack of basic necessity such as oxygen at the County’s referral hospital…….”
The County administration of Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has been informing citizens through press conferences that the hospital has a well-equipped isolation unit purposely for Covid19 patients. This has been proven to be false as the health official died of respiratory distress and lack of oxygen which were not available at the hospital. Residents are concerned Covid19 funds are being pilfered.
The funds meant to fight the pandemic and provide protective equipment to those on the front line have been allegedly misappropriated and health officials fear contracting the deadly virus that has claimed just under 300 hundred deaths in the country.
