“Charges Against Waiguru Have Not Been Substantiated,” Says Senate Committee

Senate has acquitted waiguru over the impeachment charges brought forward by the Kirinyaga County Assembly. Waiguru was accused of gross violation of the constitution and any other law, and abuse of office and gross misconduct. The impeachment motion was delivered to the Senate Speaker who selected a special committee to investigate the matter and table a report within ten days. The Committee has unanimously resolved that the allegations do not directly point at the Governor and are not strong enough to warrant an impeachment. The report reads in part, ” The Committee has investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate under section 33(4) of the County Governments Act and Standing Order 75(2) of the Senate Standing Orders reports to the Senate that it finds that the two Charges against the Governor have not been substantiated.
