Isiolo County on the Spot Over ICU beds
Isiolo County Activists accuse the County’s administration of misappropriation of funds meant for the County Referral Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The allegations follow a number of reports and photographic claims on some social media sites. Pictures of ICU beds transported from Galaxy Hospital to Isiolo County Referral Hospital has been circulating on these sites. According to our sources, Dr. Kuti’s administration hired beds from Galaxy Hospital for use during the launch of the Intensive Care Unit after which the beds will be returned. Governor Kuti launched the facility on Saturday 11th of April with 7 beds as preparedness in the fight against Covid-19. “The facilities I have commissioned today are a testament of my administration’s commitment to providing every resident of our county with high standard health care,” he said during the launch.
The activists demanded the County Government to come clean on the allegations of public funds misappropriation and provide payment vouchers, and details of the supplier. The County Government through the Chief Officer for Health shared pictures of the materials at the manufacturer’s yard but did not comment on the details of the deal. However, in unofficial communication, the County has distanced itself from the alleged scandal insisting that the pictures are photoshopped to serve a certain narrative. The County’s communication department has alluded that the beds were headed for Marsabit County but were photoshopped and planted at the County Refferal’s gate.
