“Involve the community in the fight against terrorism, ” Say Garissa leaders
Garissa leaders today convened for a one-day consultative stakeholder conference on peace and counter-violent terrorism to identify solutions and more effective measures to end violent extremism. The conference was meant to discuss the importance of involving the community in the fight against terrorist insurgents that continue to take the lives of innocent people.
The conference which was attended by political leaders, security officials, clerics, community elders, civil society members, national and county government officials, youth and women representatives explored ways to find local solutions rooted in consultative and participatory mechanisms to prevent the emergence of violent extremism, protect communities from terrorist recruitment as well as to build on successes and lessons learned, enhance partnerships and scale up efforts in the fight.
The leaders in attendance included National Assembly Majority Leader and Garissa Township MP Hon. Aden Bare Duale, Garissa Senator Hon. Yussuf Haji, Deputy Governor H.E Abdi Dagane, MPs Hon. Dr. Mohamed Dahiye (Dadaab), Hon. Sofia Abdi Noor (Ijara), Hon. Abdikarim Osman (Fafi), Hon. Mohamed Hire (Lagdera), Hon. Abdi Omar Shurie (Balambala), and other distinguished leaders from Garissa.
