Senator Farhiya Accuses Wajir First Lady of Hooliganism

Wajir County yesterday celebrated Jamhuri day amid verbal altercations between nominated Senator Farhiya Haji and Wajir County Chief Mohamed Abdi Mohamud after the senator accused the Governor’s wife of hiring hooligans to disrupt her speech. The Senator also accused the county government of failing to pay contractors and hence hurting the county’s economy and imporverishing the people of the county, an accusation that irked the county chief who responded that it’s the prerogative of his administration to pay pending bills claiming Wajir is one of the counties with the least outstanding bills. This claim is refuted by the fact that the Auditor General’s report indicates the county does not pay it’s service providers hence huge pending bills. The governor threatened the senator asking her to be “careful with her words as Jubilee is watching. She is speaking on behalf of the one who sent her and we know who they are” said the governor. According to a source who spoke to NFD DISPATCH, this was a veiled ” threat to revoke her nomination if she continues to speak about the corruption in the county”.
The Senator asked the executive committee members and county officers to be wary of what they sign for payment as they will be held accountable for misappropriation of public funds.
The Senator claimed that the first lady has threatened to hurt her and said she will follow this threat with Wajir County’s DCI.
