Why Imbeciles Will End Up Persuading us to Vote for Another Evil

Mohamed Haji
The stark contrast in which two suspects were arrested for the same crime has driven home the suspicions many Kenyans had of the powers that be. The media caricature of Nairobi governor and its overblown and blatant lies on his arrest has exposed the huge chasm between the haves and the have-nots. The danger is, the imbeciles who rule our politics will end up persuading us to vote for more evil. Was it really necessary to dramatise the arrest of Mike Sonko? Was it necessary to arrest him like a dangerous criminal? What was the difference between how former governor Kidero and current county chief Sonko were arrested? was this a ploy by the dynasties? Was it a plot to show the ordinary mortals like me and you the lessons we are expected to learn? Was it to show us who rules the roost?
Look, its a struggle to defend Sonko, the individual, because his beginning was rough and his ending is littered with acts of thuggery. But let us for once assume that he embodies, at least in the eyes of the powers that be, the aspirations and inspirations of us the hoi poloi. Let us assume he is the minion who rose in rank and dreamt of becoming a king. Therein is the lesson and the reason his arrest was dramatised. In the beginning, if you watch the clip in its unedited form, Sonko did not refuse arrest. He was willing to go with the police and contrary to the lies peddled by the EACC and serialised by the mainsteam media, he was not escaping arrest. Look, this is not in defence of the thug Sonko. It is a damning indictment of those who rule us who will make us admire a thug like Sonko or even bigger thieves like the many mega scandal bearers roaming in our streets. Sonko could be a thug, he could as well be the big thief the mainstream media and the dynasty’s PR boys , Kinoti and Nurdin potray him. He could as well have stolen millions with his friends. But is he the biggest thief roaming in our streets? Is he the biggest evil bedevelling our nation? A part of but certainly not the biggest.
There was once a scandal called Goldenberg. In it billions were lost and the architects are scotfree. Not a single soul was arrested or made to pay for the lost billions (leave the cosmetic arrests out). Why? because the dynasties and the powers that be were its designers and beneficiaries. And, then there was Angloleasing and you guessed it right not a soul has paid for the sins of its execution. Again you guessed it right, it is because the homeguards of the dynasties and the powers that be were the beneficiaries. Bigger than that there was once ICC and the indictment of both the President and his Deputy. ICC charged the duo with rape, murder and crimes against humanity. And what happened? You cannot charge let alone arrest the dynasty. It is a witchhunt cried the political elites. Western neo-imperiliasm claimed the local media. No arrest, no cry of resign, no nothing. Just like no crime has been committed. The ICC later dropped Kenyatta’s charges but in a report released last month, his deputy would have been charged were it not the court’s internal failure. Many people most of them witnesses lost their lives in mysterious circumstances. But nothing happened. The media said zero and the political elites bleated as usual. Why? because he was hanging onto the coat tails of the dynasty!
Then there was the cosmetic arrest of former Governor Kidero. In some estimates Kidero is said to have embezzled 200 billion from the City County and is alleged to be the mastermind of the death of Mumias sugar. Why was he not arrested like Sonko? Because he bought his way to the dynasties and as a mega rich elite his crimes were to be massaged and the media prevailed upon to play it down.
The nation newpaper is peddling a figure it says is shillings 357 million which it some times deliberately writes as 537 million that Sonko has stolen. In the charge sheet read by the prosecutor in court, the figure stands at shillings 19.8 million! Where has the newspaper got the 357 (537) million from? It is a figure probably passed by those who control its purse strings. The paper has lost all credibility and its the reason why reputable contributors like Dr David Ndii have left its opinion columns. But both the mainstream media and the political class actions of commission and omission are choreographed to place the hoi poloi where the elites and the dynasties think they belong. From this will emerge wannabe hoi polois who will feed the common men and women with empty slogans and hogwash promises while all the while bribing them with peanuts from the billions stolen from them in the first place.
With all the drama: the helicopters, the armed police, the cars and all, Sonko is charged with stealing 19.8 Million! In some estimates the cost of arresting him dwarfs what he is alleged to have stolen. So we can assume there is more to his arrest.
The danger is, those ordering his arrest have not actually looked at the consequences of their remembering self. They are looking at the here and now and playing games with the soul of the nation. As alleged by some pundits this could be a plot to prepare the psychology of the nation for the arrest of the number 2, the man from Sugoi who is winning hearts and minds because of the gaffes and political plunders of the dynasties and may well end up taking the mantle of leadership to throw the country off the cliff its hanging on. Now this is the tragedy. Not only will Kenyatta and Odinga destroy this nation, their gaffes, hubris and condescending stupidity will pass the keys to thieves who will strangle it before it dies a painful death. They will make us admire thieves because if ever you will allow your wealth and future stolen, you will not want a novice to steal it. You will rather a professional thief stole it, if only as a consolation. I remember when the news of the Angloleasing scandal broke out. It was so mediocre how the theft was conducted, we almost missed Goldenberg and its crafty pilfering of our billions. In the same way the dynasties will continue to stumble and perfect the making of plunders, they will make us vote for either the death of the nation or the professional evil who will slowly bleed it to death.
This brings me to the BBI (Breaking Bridges Initiative). Because of the hubris of the dynasties the nation is going against BBI. They do not see it as a building of bridges. They see the initiative as breaking of bridges or a bridge that can only carry the few not the many. A section of the political class and those who populate the corridors of power believe in forcing their decisions down the throats of Wanjiku. They are averse to consultation. All they are used to is to give orders. Kenya does not need tweaking. Its in need of a complete overhaul. Progressive forces must seize the opportunity even if its by a concervative means. They must not watch from the sidelines as the country goes to the dogs. The current political class has been a complete failure. Kenya needs new players in the field. Progressive forces cannot just fold their arms and watch all we have laboured for go to flames.
