Sonko to spend weekend in police custody
The Governor of Nairobi will spend the weekend behind bars after he was arrested by DCI detectives over graft charges. The Director of Public Prosecution had this morning issued an arrest warrant after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission completed their investigations and presented their findings to the DPP. Sonko will be arraigned in court alongside senior county employees and other business people over irregular procurement and payments amounting to Kshs. 357.4 million.
The Governor was arrested in Voi and flown to Nairobi hours after the DPP issued the arrest warrant. Sonko had earlier on filed an application seeking anticipatory bail against the arrest by the EACC detectives through his legal team led by Cecil Miller. Sonko will appear in court on Monday to answer to the charges.
