Residents snub public participation exercise
Isiolo County today embarked on a Public Participation exercise over the Finance Bill 2019, which will help guide the County Government on how it intends to charge and collect revenues. However, the event witnessed very low turnout as residents refused to attend. In Isiolo Central, for instance, the Catholic Hall was almost empty with only a small number of attendees forcing the exercise to be abandoned. According to our sources, in Merti Sub-County the exercise was not conducted as residents locked the Social Hall as they shouted, “Revoke the legal notice.” In Garbatulla same scene was witnessed as residents insisted they are not ready to be used to rubber-stamp things for the County Government in shoddy public participation. “This exercise is unconstitutional as most of us learnt about it on social media and only a day before the event, ” complained one resident who sought anonymity.
