Isiolo legislatures storm out of meeting with the County
Legislatures serving in both houses of the Senate today walked out of a meeting called by the County Government to iron out differences on the thorny land issue in the County. The meeting which was called out after the two factions differed over the legal notice no. 150 released on 27 August by the CS Ministry of Land. The national leaders had earlier presented their petition to the CS Land in which they asked the Ministry to revoke the legal notice no. 150 which set up land in the County for adjudication. The leaders requested the CS to revoke the legal notice to allow time for more engagements with the public and other stakeholders to ensure that their views are taken into account. A few days after the national leaders presented their petition the County Government met with CS and called for an amendment to the legal notice to which the national leaders have openly shown their disapproval. According to the legislatures, the legal notice as it is will open up land in Isiolo to private investors a situation that will be detrimental knowing very well much of the land in Isiolo is still communal.
The leaders then held a separate meeting at Mulata Lodge where they vowed not to back down on their demand for the revocation of the legal notice. The leaders insist they will use all legal avenues to ensure the notice is revoked to allow time for the adjudication area to be set up properly and all thorny land issues resolved.
