Northern Kenya leaders reject census results
Northern Kenya leaders led by Hon. Aden Duale have strongly opposed the 2019 Census results as they term the figures released by KNBS as data created in boardrooms. Speaking during a presser on Wednesday Duale reaffirmed that the results are meant to marginalize Northern Kenya further and take away resources from them. “You cannot stop the tyranny of numbers. You cannot stop human beings from walking on the streets. The game is not played in the boardrooms but the bedroom,” said Duale.
The leaders have questioned how different parts of Northern Kenya recorded negative growth 10 years after the last census. The region has the highest fertility rate, however the population has grown from 2.3M in 2009 to 2.5M in 2019. The leaders from the Counties of Mandera, Garissa and Wajir have promised to hire lawyers to study the data before proceeding next week to court. They want to compel KNBS to ‘open its servers’ for public scrutiny and for a quality assurance audit.
