Heavy rain causing havoc in Mandera
The long awaited rain has finally arrived in several parts of NFD bringing the worst drought experienced in years to a stop. However, the rain has turned havoc as several roads and bridges have been swept away. Several passengers are currently stuck on the road as river Lag Warera in Takaba has broken it’s banks. Vehicles have been swept away and several animals have died as the rains continue to pour.
Thousands of families have been displaced as their homes have been destroyed. The Bute Moyale road is impassable and disaster is looming if the rains will continue to pour in the coming weeks. Foodstuffs have run bad along the road and people are calling for immediate intervention from the Government to help avert a crisis. People are using improvised boats to cross rivers putting their lives at risk.
