Over 2.6 Million Kenyans Facing Severe Drought
Over 2.6 million Kenyans are affected by drought according to report released by Kenya Red Cross society. A number of Counties are at an alarming rate including; Isiolo, Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit and Garissa. Water and pasture has disappeared as more livestock continues to die due to the ravaging drought. The situation is dire and more needs to be done to prevent more loss of lives.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that the dry season will only get worse as temperatures are expected to rise beyond 30°C. The National Drought Management Authority has assured the residents that there is no cause for alarm as the situation is under control. However, the Kenya Red Cross has called on the government and other stakeholders to do more to save the situation.
