Muscle Flexing Is Over, Counties To Get Kshs. 316 billion
Relief as Senate agrees with the National Assembly’s on the proposed kshs. 316.5 billion allocation to Counties. The Senate and National Assembly have been at loggerheads over the division of revenue bill with the upper house insisting on Kshs. 336 billion. This comes after a series of negotiations failed to yield any good outcome.
Governors had initially threatened to shutdown Counties by 15th of September. “The National Assembly is not concerned that counties may grind to a halt and the citizenry misses out on basic services. We will not be part of that,” said Murkomen.
“We have made the painful decision to advice our negotiators to agree on the Ksh.316 billion. We take solace in the fact that sometimes to win the war, one must be prepared to yield some battles,” said Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.
