Bomet Governor has finally succumbed to cervical cancer after months in hospital. Joyce Laboso was taken to UK and India for treatment in May of this year before returning home last month. She was receiving treatment at a Nairobi Hospital before here demise. This becomes the third high profile individual to die of cancer in the country after Bob Collymore and Ken Okoth.
Dozens of Kenyans succumb to the disease every month as few survive its devastating effect. Kisumu Governor Prof Nyang Nyongo is one of the surviving governors afflicted by the disease as close to 10 members of parliament are said to be at various stages of cancer. The government is expected to declare cancer a national disaster.
