Elders from Habaswein sub-county have today come out strongly in support of Fatuma Gedi, the Wajir County Women Rep saying they have ”full confidence in her development record and will support her for the Wajir South Constituency seat in 2022”. Addressing, a gathering where the Women Rep narrated how Majority Leader Aden Duale is ”frustrating” her development projects using the Constituency MP Dr Mohamud Oomar, the elders said ” You have our full support and the people of this constituency should discard clannism”. An elder named Ali Abdi who hails from the MP’s sub-clan said ”if the man we elected is a development weakling and Fatuma has proved her worth, then its time we discard the clan preference and measure leaders on their development record” amid applause from the audience.
Narrating how the Constituency MP and two other female legislators were sent by Majority Leader to disrupt her function officiated by the Labour Cabinet Secretary, Ms Gedi said she ”called and informed the MP about her function. The CS called him too and asked him to come with us since he is the constituency MP, but Dr Oomar said he is busy and they have his blessings”. The Women Rep continued that ”Majority Leader called the MP few days to the function and asked him not to allow the woman to take over his constituency, hiring a plane for him and the two other female legislators to come to Habaswein and disrupt the function”. Fatuma Gedi who spoke emotionally about those she claimed are after her to disrupt her people’s development projects moved the crowd who came out in support of her and said she has done loads more for the people of Wajir South than her male counterparts.
