Majority Leader Aden Duale Calls for a Taskforce to Investigate Mass Failures of Students From Northern Kenya in National Examinations
National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale raised concerns over the mass failures of students from Northern Kenya in national examinations. The Garissa Township MP who was addressing students from NEP Girls High School in Garissa asked the Education Cabinet Secretary to form a task force to investigate what he termed as unacceptable. ” Northern Kenya is not an exclusive zone for D and D+ and we will not accept it” said the Majority Leader. The Legislator who implied that there is manufactured mass failure by education authorities, angrily said if the CS does not form a task force he will constitute a parliamentary task force as the Majority Leader to investigate why students from these parts of the country fail in national examinations while they excel when they go to institutions of higher learning.
Parents and other stakeholders have been raising concerns over mass regional failures which some claimed was a deliberate attempt to deny students from the region opportunities to pursue University education. Kenya National Examination Council has severally come under criticism from parents, politicians and education experts from the region over claims of bias in marking examinations. KNEC has been accused of unwarranted mass cancellations of examinations rendering too many young people without a productive future, claims both the Education Ministry and the Examination body deny.
