Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim “Was Mentally Unbalanced” When he attacked The Female Legislator, Lawyer Claims in Court
Today the Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim who allegedly assaulted Wajir Women Rep Fatuma Gedi over Budgetary allocations was arraigned in court after a night in custody. His lawyer claimed that the MP was in a fit of madness when he hit the female legislator and pleaded on grounds of diminished responsibility. Diminished responsibility in law is an unbalanced mental state that is considered to make a person less answerable for a crime and to be grounds for a reduced charge.
The MP has been released on shillings 50 thousand bail and his case to be heard in August despite protest from female parliamentarians. Today MP Sabina Chege who is the Muranga County women rep said it is “bad and demeaning, how can a Member of Parliament be attacked inside the precints of the house”
