Lalampa and The White Lie
By Najar Munyiyi
There is a video by the ‘CEO’ of Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), TOM LALAMPA, promoting NRT. He says he runs it, but he’s the African Face. Kenyans know that Ian Craig is the head-honcho behind NRT.
The video was part of a bowl begging series sponsored by National Geographic. NRT asks for funding from WWF who are currently implicated in gross misconduct across Earth – including advocating for shooting on sight policies by Rangers who are on WWF payroll. USAID also funds the “Government of Kenya” but the funding goes through NRT. This is documented, and is the reason behind why the NRT Board includes members of Kenyan Parliament. They receive big salaries, from both NRT and as Kenyan MP’s. Tricky? Yes. NRT runs Northern Kenya. Ian Craig himself is on the BOARD of the National Kenya Wildlife Service, and pushes policy towards NRT which is nothing more than the Colonialist white Settler families depriving millions of Northerners of their lands. Turkana County kicked out NRT. NRT though has completely taken lands of the Laikipiak Maasai in Laikipia County. The Laikipiak roam on road reserves.
There are some serious problems with Mr Lalampas presentation.
1. LALAMPA is NOT MAASAI. He is Samburu and has misrepresented the Maasai people by wearing their distinct clothing. 2. There is a bitter conflict in the areas that he speaks about which are in Isiolo. Investigation has proven that over 70 people from the Bulessa Biliqo CONservation have been murdered; men, women and children shot on sight, by heavily armed NRT Rangers. 3. There is documentation proving that NRT uses low flying aeroplanes to herd wildlife from Isiolo County, into Samburu County. 4. Ian Craig and NRT have been kicked out of the ISIOLO COUNTY permanently by the Borana Council of Elders. There is an issue whereby NRT are currently trespassing on land that is not theirs. For 15 years prior to this they have terrorized communities including breaking up elder meetings and arresting elders for asking for proof of Ian Craig’s agreement with locals to be on Isiolo land. There are NO agreements. 5. Politicians (who do not own the lands) have refused to address the community problems as Ian Craig bribes them with vehicles, household money and fees for International Schools for their children. 6. The community of Reteti, the Elephant Sanctuary built by The Daphne Sheldrick Organization has demonstrated against NRT. The orphan elephants brought in are kidnapped from their mothers. The community members receive nothing despite allowing the Sanctuary to use their land.
7.Despite these serious charges, here is Lalampa pleading for Donation in America and Europe, lying through his teeth, despite LEWA and other tourist hotels in the NRT organizations charging up-to and often over 1000usd a NIGHT PER PERSON. View via their portals. 8. Investigations have also proved that NRT gives bursaries from the money kept aside from selling the Boranas own cows at very low prices. When the cattle is sold they do not pay they do not the Herders in cash. For each cow they buy, instead of giving the money to Pastoralists, they keep it – then give it back as “bursaries from NRT” a few months later. These and other factors make for the alarm when this video clip became public.
