The Wajir County Assembly has today passed the motion to remove from office the Agriculture CEC Mr Yusuf Gedi by a majority of 30 votes. There were 18 abstentions and zero Nay votes.
The MCAs have given the County Governor 7 days to institute the removal of the CEC from office and threatened to evict him from his office if the Executive declines to act.
The CEC who was among the few of the lucky ones to survive the purge by the new administration has not been lucky enough to escape the wrath of the select committee and the assembly members. This sets a precedent as Wajir becomes the first county to vote out a sitting Executive Member and Mr Gedi goes into the annals of the County’s history as the first CEC to be impeached and removed from office for alleged gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds.
All eyes are now on the Governor and as political negotiations to save the CEC has failed before he was dragged to face the Select Committee, the Governor’s hands appear tied.
