Saturday’s Barwaqo Fracas Continues to Raise Emotions in Wajir County As Governor Organizes Iftar Dinner
Members of the Ajuran Community are said to be angry at an Iftar dinner organized by the Wajir governor in which a section of Ajuran politicians and elders apologized for the Barwaqo fracas. Many who called NFD DISPATCH expressed regret at what they claimed were people who ”were paid by the Governor” to attend the iftar dinner and apologize to him. “I am very distressed by the claims of spivs and people who do not represent the Ajuran community to apologize to some one who is responsible for the death and arrest of our people” said one angry man who requested to remain anonymous. The members including women criticized the attendees of the iftar dinner and said they do not represent the Ajuran Community. The dinner was not attended by the Wajir North MP and the County Senator who are both from the Ajuran Community. The iftar and the utterances of the attendees irked some of the Ajuran Community members and termed it as condescending.
The Saturday incident that resulted in one serious injury and arrest of others by the police who are alleged to have opened fire is still stirring emotions as some claimed that the ” expired food has caused the death of the sheep pictured below”. We could not verify the authenticity of these claims but tempers are rising as some members of the community claim that the food was meant to ”bewitch the community and was not fit for even animal consumption”
A statement from the department of communication earlier condemned the fracas and defended the actions of the county. It blamed the fracas on “politics of a few hellbent to cause bad blood between the community and the governor”
