Two Seriously Injured In Wajir County’s Bula Barwaqo After Residents Protest Against the Governor
Bula Barwaqo of Wajir County was earlier today a scene of chaos after police opened fire on residents who were protesting against what they alleged was expired rice the County Governor was distributing. Two people were seriously injured and have been rushed to Garissa General Hospital said to be in an unstable condition. The residents who stoned the Governor’s car were protesting against what they claimed was a county government that has ”disrespected them by distributing relief food that has expired”. ”Even a donkey does not eat such food and even if the governor were to give us relief food he should not have brought only 25 bags of expired rice for a whole population” said one angry women who joined the protest.
The residents who lit huge bonfires and barricaded the governor’s car said ”they cannot be forced to eat expired food”. The Governor’s car was seen negotiating the barricade. He left in a huff in his car and did not speak to the press.
