Wajir County Conducts Its First Dialysis
Wajir County referral hospital has today conducted its first successfull dialysis. This comes a day after NFD Dispatch reported Garissa County’s complaints of too many dialysis referrals from Wajir County which they said was a huge burden.
The hospital today celebrated its debut dialysis operation and said it will save patients from the cost and the inconvenience of travel to Garissa and Nairobi. This was made possible by staff trained by the national government. The dialysis were procured through the controversial Medical Equipment Leasing contract signed by the county in 2015 where the county pays sh 80 million to the national government in return for dialysis machines, oncology services among other specialist equipment. Some of the county residents raised concerns against what they claimed was the county spending over shillings 200 million on the Medical Equipment Leasing contract that they said benefits the county little.
