Deputy Chief Khadi Cautions Against Expensive Weddings and Fake Marriages
Deputy Chief Khadi Sheikh Suqyan Hassan has raised concerns against the proliferation of fake marriages and expensive weddings that is alarmingly increasing in the Muslim community. The Sheikh who reminded worshippers the famous Prophet MUhammad (SAW) hadith of the lesser the wedding cost the bigger the blessings asked people who conduct weddings in expensive 5 star hotels such as Raddison Blue and Villa Rosa Kempinski to instead assist the many poor Muslims and orphans going through very hard times. The Sheikh also raised grave concerns of what he termed as ”tourist marriages where men mainly from the United States and other western countries take young vulnerable girls for marriage quoting exorbitant dowries that they do not even intend to pay and disappear never to return to their new families and asked them to fear Allah and desist from such kind of transgression”.
The Sheikh said that prefferial registrars of marriages who are outside the Khadi court jurisdiction to desist from registering marriages, often asking for expensive fees. ”There are those who are approached by people with questionable deeds who want to wed girls and are often charged higher fees for registration. They often do not keep to the ordinary standards of relationships”.
