Wajir West By-election: The Beginning of a New Political Relationship

By Fankey Osman
The battle of titans in Wajir West is over. Very useful lessons have been learned. As I wish the mp elect, hon Ahmed Qolosh well in his endevour to serve the citizens of Wajir West and congratulate him for the win, I unequivocally also congratulate his competitor hon Ibrahim Sheikh for the persistence, patience, maturity and gracious acceptance of defeat, . Hon Qolosh should now concentrate on service delivery. 2022 is just round the corner but before then, I believe he can do much for the communities in terms of development.
I also wish to convey my message of congratulations to the other leaders who have come to the aid of Hon Qolosh starting with the current governor, HE Mohamed Abdi Mohamud, who has, regardless of the support he received from the various communities in Wajir, openly agitated for the support of the MP elect. I also wish to congratulate his predecessor, HE Ahmed Abdullahi aka Jir, Mandera North MP, hon Major Bashir, Eldas MP, hon Adan Keynan, former Rhamu MP, hon Abdikadir aka lawyer, Wajir East MP, hon Rashid Kassim, Tarbaj MP, Hon Eng Bashane and former Wajir West MP, hon Abdikadir Ore among others. One lesson has been learned as I stated herein above- this has been a battle between Ibrahim Sheikh on one side & the county governments of Wajir, Mandera & Garissa on the other side, not forgetting the support from the Deputy President, Majority Leader and Wajir Women Rep. A conclussion may be drawn from the above pattern unless a different explanation with sufficient and justifiable evidence is given as the current narrative is no longer pallatable. Though Hon Qolosh remains our MP and for that matter, our son, this pattern and narrative is no longer by coincidence and smells of political and tribal annihiliation aimed at marshalling unneccessary short term power and without focusing into the future. While the bye-election has ended peacefully and on a positive note, a journey into the future has just began for some current and past leaders who had a standing ovation among the Ajuran community in Wajir before the 25th April 2019. The community has been raided politically and the strategy cannot and will not be the same in future. Lessons learnt have been documented, the narrative shared widely, personalities and politicians herein perceived as friendly before will now be viewed with scepticism and of course unfriendly. The just ended by-election will be a game changer for 2022.
Congrats Hon Qolosh.Congrats Hon Ibrahim Sheikh.
