A team from the independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have landed in Wajir county this morning ahead of tommorow’s Wajir west by-election.
Led by the commission’s chairperson Mr Wafula Chebukati, the commissioners are on mission to find out and assess the level of preparedness for the exercise slated for tomorrow’s 25th, April.
According to Wajir county police commandant Steven Ngetich, they have dispatched enough security officers on the ground in an attempt to preempt any violence and chaos during and after the exercise.
“We have sent police officers across the polling centres and urge residents to maintain peace,” said Mr Ngetich.
The Wajir west constituency fell vacant after Supreme Court nullified the election of the incumbent MP Mr Ahmed Kholosh over irregularities that marred some polling stations.
The competitors have so far called upon their supporters to observe restraints and cast their votes peacefully.
The Mini-poll is pitting between two candidates; Ahmed Kholosh (Jubilee) and Ibrahim Sheik of (KANU) after the other three contestants withdraw from the race in favour of Ahmed Kholosh.
