MCAs Push For More Benefits
MCAs attending the 4th Legislative Summit in Kisumu are intensifying their push for better terms to improve their financial status. The MCAs are requesting for more benefits including; pension for those who complete 2 terms in office as well as car grants. “We want to walk with the government on corruption but it should also give us what is rightfully ours. Let us live honourably, walk honourably, retire honourably and if possible die in honour, ” said Florence Oila a nominated MCA from Migori County.
The MCAs appealed to parliament to speed up the enactment of the County Government Retirement Pension Bill and Ward Equitable Development Bill which are currently pending in the Senate. The MCAs want to be granted financial and operational mandate which will improve on their mandate without the interference of the County Executives. The Governors are however opposed to the Bill arguing that it is unconstitutional. The Summit which started yesterday in Kisumu brings together over 2000 MCAs, Senators, Members of National Assembly and a number of delegates.
