Samburu Governor arrested over the loss of Ksh. 84M
Samburu Governor Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal has been arrested and is currently held at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to answer charges of loss of funds. The Governor will be charged with others including his deputy, several CECs and his personal aide. The detectives discovered a possible loss of Kshs. 84 million which is believed to have been paid to Oryx Service Station since 2013.
“During the period in question, Oryx Service Station received a total of Ksh.84,695,996.55 from the County Government. This amount is believed to have been shared between the Governor and his proxy Hesbon Ndathi,” a statement from the Director of Public Prosecution reads. According to the DPP, the Governor has been unable to state his interest clearly in Oryx Service Station.
The EACC detectives also discovered properties worth Ksh. 90 million which were purchased by the Governor in Karen. The properties have since been frozen following a court order and the Governor has been given order not to access them until the investigations are completed. These properties are part of 6 houses which is believed to have been purchased in cash with the Governor paying Ksh. 15 million for each.
Detectives have also discovered serious gross scandals and corruption dealings where it is believed the Governor and his close proxies have benefited immensely. Samburu County is amongst the poorest in the Country and has in recent months been hit with severe drought. The Governor will have a lot to explain and it would be interesting to see if criminal charges will be filed against the County boss.
