Fast track The Youth Agenda to Beat Violent Extremism says Marsabit Governor
Marsabit County Governor Mohamud Ali said the youth agenda must be fast tracked both nationally and locally to adequately address the issue of radicalization and violent extremism. Addressing the media in a gathering of Pastrolist leaders in Garissa, the governor said unemployment of our youth is a significant contributor to our young people joining terror groups like Al-Shabaab and such other groups. He called for local and national leaders to collaborate with development partners to address the challenge of youth unemploynent. ”We appeal to the donor community and partners to focus on youth employment to address the challenges of youth radicalization and violent extremism in marginalized counties” said Governor Mohamud.
The governor said the pastrolist communities will be speaking with one voice and will no longer be partitioned or divided. ”We will be speaking with one voice and you will see a lot of activities shaping the country because we have to claim our place. We have to shape the destiny of this nation by providing the voice of reason. We are not going to take a backseat and watch when things are not going in the right direction” Said Governor Mohamud.
The governor said the exaggeration of incidences of unsecurity in pastrolist counties is magnifying our challenges said the governor. “When a small incidence happens in our counties you have seen how its blown out of proportion but a very serious happens in a big city like Nairobi it is massaged and treated as ordinary. We are going to ensure that we walk hand-in-hand and marginalized counties is not taken for guaranted” Continued Governor Mohamud.
