High rate of teen pregnancy blamed on moral decay
The 2018 National Examination has brought to the limelight cases of Teenage pregnancy which according to the statistics has placed Isiolo County in the Top ten with a shockingly high rate of teen pregnancy. The County Commissioner revealed that about 15 Girls will sit the KCSE either at the hospital or risk being rushed to hospital for labor. A number of other girls have also given birth before the exams while some others are believed to be few months pregnant.
CS Amina had earlier on called for an immediate audit of teenage pregnancy as the number continues to surge. The KNUT Secretary General Mr. Sossion insisted that the parents have failed in molding their kids well shelving their responsibility to the teachers. Parents have cited moral decay as one of the main reasons for the rise in teen pregnancy. A parent we spoke to blamed night clubs that allow teenagers to flock in every weekend. According to many residents Isiolo town has gone so much down the drain in terms of morality.
Religious leaders have called on parents to strictly ensure their children adhere to the principles of their religion. “Morality lessons begin at home and most parents have failed on their roles of bringing up their kids well,” said one Sheikh. The elders and religious leaders have urged the society to focus on impacting values to their kids. Parents and teachers have also been urged to have a closer look at the conduct of these teens and monitor them well.
