Pomp and glamour marks Desert Wheel Race 2018

Over 100 individuals living with disability from pastoralist community took part in the 7th Edition of the Desert Wheel Race which was marked with pomp and glamour as dignitaries and the local people joined them at Isiolo Stadium. The event which is an initiative of NONDO lived up to its expectation. The Guest of Honor was CS Devolution Eugene Wamalwa who was accompanied by his counterpart from Ministry of Labour Ambassador Ukur Yattani. Isiolo Governor also welcomed his colleagues Ali Korane, Mohamud Ali, Nanok from Garissa, Marsabit and Turkana County respectively. Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo and Women Rep Hon. Rehema Jaldesa were also present to support people with disability.

The winners receive their awards from the leaders

The event hopes to raise awareness for the plight of those living with disability and support this vulnerable group. CS Eugene urged the Counties to ensure effective implementation of Art 54 of the Constitution and 5% PWDs rule he also urged them to remain vigilant in ensuring that their voices are heard. The Governors present promised to include PWDs in various parts of their Government.
