I will Not Support The VAT Increase, Says Isiolo Women Rep
Isiolo Women Rep Hon Rehema Jaldesa said she will not support the fuel tax rise. As a Chief Guest at a fundraising dinner in aid of Amina Jarso Mokku who is pursuing a commercial piloting course, Hon Rehema said it is a huge tax burden and the increase should not be effected. Amina is the daughter of the CEO of Pastoralist Parliamentary Group (PPG) Mr Jarso Mokku. The fundraising dinner at Nairobi’s Arabian Cuisine raised 5 million shillings. Amina who has masters in aeronautical engineering and speaks 9 languages is now pursuing a commercial piloting course in the Serbia.
CAS Labour Ministry Hon Abdul Bahari, Marsabit Women Rep Hon Safiya Aden Boku, ISiolo North MP Hon Hassan Oda, Former Isiolo Deputy Governor Hon Mohamed Guled, Isiolo Mcas represented by the Assembly Speaker Hussein Golicha among others attended the fundraising dinner while others sent their contributions.
Rehema strongly spoke against the 16% VAT that was yesterday reduced to 8% by President Uhuru and returned to parliament. Hon Rehema said the tax is a political gimmick and criticized the categorization of essential development programs as non-essential by the government in a bid to cut spending. She said fuel prices in Kenya can be reduced to 90 shillings but corruption has to be tackled. ” Corruption is not about the current political show off but ” under the table deals that have to be eradicated”. She said ”with respect I will have to vote against the president on VAT as it is unfair for hardworking Kenyans to shoulder more tax burden”.
