Marsabit leaders call for unity after hours in a closed door meeting.

Marsabit County leaders led by the Governor Muhamud Ali released a press statement following the conclusion of a security meeting that had been convened earlier. The leaders were locked up at catholic hall in Marsabit Town deliberating on ways to end the looming ethnic clash between Gabra and Borana.

The leaders, security officers and elders from the warring tribes deliberated for hours on the insecurity issues after which they released an official statement where they have raised a number of issues.

“All the security concerns have been addressed and the culprits are already in custody and there is no need for citizens to be worried as the issue is now under control. We therefor urge the affected families to move back to their areas and continue with their lives.

The only borders we have are administrative ones and we cannot therefore create tribal borders and therefore our people need to learn to live with each other peacefully and in harmony,” read part of the statement.

The leaders have promised to walk all over the County and preach peace insisting that they cannot afford to open the ugly past especially in a time when the fruits of devolution are beginning to show.
